Last blog for this class
Well, next week is the end of e-business. All we have left is our final exam. Can you believe it? I am glad because I need a break. No more school till the holidays.
This week in class we had our class projects. I thought everyone did a great job. It was not that easy to come up with a project that would be the next big thing. So, I went with what I knew and apparently Professor J. thought it would not make it on-line as a business. Never-the-less we did win the 3 million dollars. Thank you goes out to the class. So, their must have been some appeal to it. Here is where I got most of my thoughts on this project ez wedding planner. To anyone getting married in the future, use this site I thought it was pretty great I even set up a wedding on it to get a better look at the working of the site. They don't do the planning like my business was going to do and their site is free....
Well, I hope that everyone has a great holiday season. See you guys in January.

Forcasting
This week Kenny Funk came to our class as a guest lecturer. He comes to us from Disney where he is an Vice-President for merchandise planning. What does that mean? Well, lots of research, planning and forcasting for the market of sales. He talked to us about forcasting for the most part. They plan eighteen months out, can you believe that? I can only plan a few weeks at a time.
The rest of the class we went over very quickly I might add three chapters. I don't remember so much there probabley because we were moving quickly or it could just have been I am stressing over this project we have to do for this class. I picked something that I know something about but I keep coming up blank in certain areas. Not to mention the term paper I have to do in Sociology, I pretty much have that one done, I just have some minor fixes to complete then it is good to go.
On a personal note I finally found a job, I start this Monday. Kinda, a bad time since I still have lots of project work to do but I have to survive too. Really looking foward to a break from classes. Not so much the holidays though, no money and all. I really hate the society that we live in. Well, enough complaining. Just one more post and I am done. See you next week.......

Class Debate
This week in class we had quite a bit of fun. We had a debate.... It actually got a little heated. Mainly the subject was about My Space and how it can be good and bad. We discussed how so mainly companies are going on Google and looking you up to see what they can find out about you. The against also brought up child protection. The group that was for it showed how parents need to know what their children are doing on the computer. So all in all if you are a parent you should protect your child on-line in the same way you do off-line.
I personally make sure that I know what my children are doing on-line. If they go on a site that is not good for them they loose their privilages to use the computer. I go on several different sites like, Banjo hangout, Bible-Discussion, Bobby Thompson (This is not a site such like the others but you can leave comments), and Jubilee Bible Discussion. I haven't been to any of them lately because I have been so busy do work for my classes. Two of these sites are in memory of my father. I know nothing about playing the banjo, I stay their for his memory. My main point is to let everyone know that you can find sites for discussions or debates on just about any subject. A person should never do anything that could hurt themself on any site and always take caution with any personal information.

Stickiness and Web Portals
Well this week in class we all got a shock when our Professor informed us that he had been laid off from his full time job. What can I say except I hate to hear that and I know how you feel since I myself was laid off and a month later my husband was. We are still looking for work. We are now looking out of state on the hope that the economy is a little better else where. It is hard to think about leaving since we don't even have the money to get out of here. I also hate to leave because I have really made some good friends here in Florida. Well enough said lets get to what I am suspose to actually be doing her on this blog. Talking about what I learned this week in class.
One of the thing I most remember was talking about was stickiness. No, not that I have been playing with something sticky but, How to get a person to come and stay at a web site. How companies use this technique on web sites to grap us and then get us to keep coming back to their site. I mainly remember this because I thought it was a kinda funny term to use.
Another thing we talked about in class was a Portal (Web Portal). This is a web site that you use to do much of your searching and navigating from. Like when you go to Yahoo you will then go to other sites like a career finding site or horoscopes, weather and too many others to mention. Well at least I am starting to learn what I am looking at or what I am doing when I go down and click on horoscopes. I now know it is a portal and I am beginning to understand why things are like they are on these sites. That there is a purpose behind all of it and it is not just to irritate me. It is a huge marketing scheme where they all kinda come together.

Mid term
Well I took Sociology and e-Business mid-terms and I passed. What was up with a pop quiz on the same day as a mid-term in e- business. Oh well who cares I passed. You will have to forgive me I have been out of school sine 1987. I also graduated by the skin of my teeth. I hated school and everything having to do with it. I guess that is why it took 21 years for me to go back to school. I really don't know what I want to be when I grow up but I might as well get a degree in a field that I know I am good at. To push it a bit farther. Hope it works. Follow me into a career at Strayer University
Now what else can I talk about, Lets see. Should I talk about the election? I don't think so!!!!! Haven't we all heard enough about that. How about how stocks are still falling and even worse the past couple of days? We all are feeling that one so lets not... Right now the sun is shinning and I am alive and I hope that thinks will just get better. So on that note lets just take a moment to realize how good we have it. Look around you and realize that you may have it good to the person next to you. So give them a big smile and a nice hello. 10 to 1 says you will light up their day.

chapter 9
This chapter talks about Customer Management Relationship Software. This software collectes customer data to know how much a customer purchases along with what they purchase. This helps companies to get people to purchase other thingsalong the same line or to inform them of sales they are having in that area. To check out a company on how they use this to better them go to http:// www.siebel.com/downloads/case_studies/
The most part of the night we went over sample questions for the mid-term.
Things like operating systems, you know the software that tell the hardware what to do. Kinda the brain of your computer. Here is the one I still don't get centralized architecture risking other servers. Hello, I Don't Get It!!!! Okay if the central srever or computer goes out the others still work but to me they are at risk on not being able to communicate together anymore. Isn't that a risk? I think so. I really think risk should not have been part of the question but maybe something like this; In centralized architecture, damage would happen to all computers or servers if the central unit went out. This I understand to be false, but risk true, because the entire system failes to work together without the central connection. They cannot communicate within the group. The risk is a company risk not a computer risk, but still a risk. Isn't it?

Crime over the internet
this week we learned about the laws and crimes on the internet. The crimes on the internet, for the most part are the same as in every other area of life. People steal, sell illegeally and gamble. Even more they can target children much easier than in the past. Therefore, if you have children you should place restrictions on you computer. You can learn more about this at Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (Coppa).
It can be very difficult to go after people who do crimes over the internet. One of the biggest issues in fighting crime over the internet is, Who has jurisdiction? Even more, most of our laws deal with the phyiscal and not cyber space or a virtural world. So how do fight these kind of crimes? We all need to you our most powerful weapon which is, our Voice. We need to let our government know that we want laws passed in this area to protect us. The US Government has a website that you can learn more about these crimes and jurisdiction at US Department Of Justice Cybercrime.

week 2
Some insteresting facts from this weeks lesson. Defense department starting using something called ARPANET in 1069 ofcourse, now it is known as the internet. I had no idea the internet had been around that long. In 1972 Ray Tomlinson created a way to send messages to one another. Which we now call e-mail. Then how to write in HTML. How work and time go into it.
When reading over this chapter, I really felt like I was reading in a forgien language. Mainly because I could not understand the termalogy being used. Professor Johnson took this information and helped me to understandwhat I was really reading. The lesson actually became a bit interesting once we started talking about it in class.

In the first wave companies thought that they could use the first mover advantage to be at the top of the industry by marketing the same products and services on the internet, before the large corporations did. In most cases this failed because consumers had already grown to know the companies that were on top of the market. As these companies started using e-commerce on the internet, consumers stayed with them. The larger more known companies had the resources to overtake any company that did not have the tools, skills or finances to compete. A few companies did make it through the first wave such as E-bay, because they marketed something that had not been done this way in the past.
In the second wave businesses do not rely on the first mover advantage for success. Now they’re focusing on expanding their products and services into the global market. They have learned to customize e-mail, increase advertising and use multiple languages to connect with consumers at a global level. The businesses that did grow in the first wave by using the first mover advantage are increasing their business in the second wave in the same manner by perfecting their site so that it can also reach the global market.
